EATING

Our selection of best breakfast spots follows. There are many other eateries in Bellingen.

Swiss Patisserie & Bakery (Church Street, opposite Court House, 100m from YHA Hostel)
Who cares about the calories! Start your day here with a pastry and coffee. Sit outside on wrought iron furniture or spread the paper on wooden benches. A taste of home for Europeans.

"The Lodge" (on the Waterfall Way, western fringe of town, 150m from YHA Hostel)
An old Masonic Lodge put to better use as a Sydney-styled cafe. Our pick for the best coffee. Good views west up the Bellinger Valley, or choose the cool eastern verandah away from the afternoon sun. Often exhibits good local paintings and sculpture.

The Old Butter Factory (east of the Golf course, 1.5kms east of the Post Office)
If you're really hungry, this is the one for you. Every breakfast is a small mountain. Fast efficient service. Craft shops to peruse after breakfast. View west over the golf course toward the mountains.

No 2 Oak Street With countless restaurants and catering awards to its name, No 2 Oak Street is the home of fine dining in Bellingen - and in the region. Delicious food in a restore cottage. Not for the budget conscience.

Little Kitchen The home of pizza in Bellingen. Offering el fresco dining, a range of tasty, gourmet-styled pizza and a casual atmosphere. Not open Mondays and Wednesdays.

Elite Espresso & Gallery Opened just this year, this cafe makes excellent use of its outlook over the main street of Bellingen. With raised ceilings of pressed iron and stain glass windows, but then modern lighting and furnishing, this is a popular meeting Saturday morning meeting spot.

Riverstone Cafe Music Books For the Most Delicious Food, Divine Organic Coffee, Superb Organic Wine and Beer, Eclectic Books and Cool Music in Bellingen!

Sis de Lane The recently refurbished Sis de Lane Cafe is open 7 days in the heart of Bellingen. Sis de Lane serves contemporary meals and cakes.

SHOPPING

The Old Church (Church Street, 40m from Hyde Street, Opposite Banana Coast Credit Union)
Imported home and kitchenware. General knicknackery and plants. This is the place to go if you need to buy a gift.

The Yellow Shed (Hyde Street, 300m east of Post Office)
Craft and art shop. Something for everyone. Been around since the year dot.

Bellingen Markets (Bellingen Sports Oval, Church Street, 200m from Hyde Street)
200 - 250 stalls of anything you can image. Magical place. Once a month, on the third Saturday of every month. Free, live entertainment. A variety of food and bush cafes.

Bellingen Growers Market (Bellingen Showground, Black Street)
A more recent arrival in Bellingen, this alternative market offers organic vegies, homemade preserves and coffee & cake.

Hammond & Wheatley Building  (the main drag, Hyde Street)
Female apparel (great girls undies), homewares and the stuff for the blokes down the back (and mostly out of sight). Beautiful historic building. Built pre-1900. Originally served as a department store serving the needs of timber getters and later, the farming community.
